SHIPMATES --- Although our next USS Grant reunion would usually be conducted in September of 2023, the USS Grant Alumni Association Board has decided to conduct a ‘LAND’ reunion in September of 2022. This decision was made because of the cancellation of the scheduled 2021 reunion.
The Board has narrowed the location search to three cities in the central U.S. The location and dates of the four-night three-day ‘LAND’ reunion will be announced on the USS Grant website in early November. There will NOT be a ‘CRUISE’ reunion in 2022, and further USS Grant ‘LAND and ‘CRUISE’ reunions will be conducted during even-numbered years.
For the past year we have monitored any actions by the Baltimore city officials which could impact our reunion. Last week, the Baltimore Department of Health (BDOH) issued a restrictive directive which will adversely impact our reunion. The actions outlined in the directive will be reviewed no later than September 7th, to determine IF the BDOH will modify the restrictions.
The BDOH restrictions require that ALL persons wear masks while indoors (except in their home). There is a fine of $200 per violation for non-compliance, upon conviction. The directive also states you should carry a mask with you when you are outdoors and it is to be donned if you are within six feet of any other person. Therefore, masks will almost always be required on the street, as you will usually be walking with a spouse/friend and you will be in close proximity to other pedestrians. All restaurants, shopping areas, bars, tourist sites, hotels, etc. MUST comply.
We have spoken to all the activities we have planned and ALL state they will comply with the BDOH directive. A mask is required to be worn at ALL times at ALL of our planned activities outside the hotel. A mask is also required in ALL areas of the hotel, except in personal rooms. Our hospitality room is NOT a personal room.
The Reunion Committee was in Baltimore a year ago when these same directives were in effect and had determined at the time that the directives would prohibit the conduct of our usual reunion. We were pleased the directives had been dropped in late 2020. Now, they have been re-instated until at least September 7th.
The USS U. S. Grant Alumni Association Board of Directors met Sunday, August 15th. After reviewing all the information and options, it was determined that the current BDOH directive severely impacts the conduct of our scheduled reunion. The Board determined the best current course of action would be to cancel the 2021 USS Grant Land Reunion in Baltimore and they voted to officially cancel the 2021 reunion. The Board's action at this time should give all shipmates/guests time to change their schedules and reservations.
However, the board also determined that the next USS Grant reunion WILL occur in 2022, instead of 2023, and during every even-numbered year thereafter. The 2022 reunion will ONLY be a Land reunion at a location to be selected in mid-America and announced within the next two weeks. The usual Land reunion, followed by Cruise reunion, will probably resume during the 2024 reunion.
I hope to see you all at the next USS Grant reunion in 2022.
Regards, Ed Farris, President USS U.S. Grant Alumni Association

Call 1-800-465-3595. Choose OPTION #4 to reach Group Sales.
Book your cruise with the person who answered the call or ask to be transferred to X131417 (William).

If booking a Balcony or Suite – remember that they will be at the ‘prevailing rate’. However, ask if there is a ‘promotion of the day’.
NOTE: Because most cruise lines, beginning in May 2020, cancelled their cruises for 2020, many of the cruisers have rolled their bookings over to 2021. This has resulted in limited available ‘new’ bookings aboard many cruise ships. Because of this, we recommend early booking to insure availability. Remember, you have until 6/25/2021 to get a FULL refund.
