USS Grant Mini-Reunion Sept 22-24, 2006 Desert Hills, Arizona
The third Grant Reunion was a mini-reunion held at shipmate Mike Moe's home in Phoenix, Arizona. The theme was "Hawaiian Luau". About 40 shipmates and guests attended this special reunion.
This weekend mini-reunion had shipmates and their guests staying in the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Phoenix with all the Hawaiian activities taking place at Mike and Sherry Moe's Hawaiian decorated home.
Friday evening began with a Welcome "Aboard Dinner" at the Lone Star Steak House and Saloon. Shipmates and guests had a great time getting reacquainted. The evening was spent at the lounge in the Crowne Plaza Hotel which had a live band performing to entertain us all.
All guests were transported to the Luau site at Mike and Sherry's home on Saturday morning. Shipmates wore Hawaiian attire and participated in games from Bocce Ball to Shuffleboard. The hot tub and swimming pool alongside Mike's outdoor cabana and bar on a sandy beach made you feel you were in Hawaii. The food was exceptional and authenic to Hawaiian Cusine. Margaritas were plentiful and served by a lovely grass skirted waitress. Shipmates sat in lounge chairs on the beach and basked in the sun recalling many salty sea tales. Door prizes and photos were in abundance. All attendees received a memento reunion T-Shirt. The party lasted late into the evening before guests were returned to the hotel.
Shipmates said their goodbyes and headed for the airport on Sunday. Some chose to stay and attend a breakfast with Mike and Sherry at the Pioneer Restaurant, Saloon and historical village.
This reunion was exceptional and we owe a debt of gratitude to Mike and Sherry Moe and their family for all the planning, decorating, food preparation efforts and their gracious hosting of this wonderful reunion.
